QatarQatar is a small gulf state that is steadily becoming more western and the recent staging of the Asian Games shows the nation is determined to be part of the global world. There is, for example, alcohol, although its consummation is controlled. Most things centre around the capital Doha, but there is dramatic desert scenery to the south and some great isolated beaches. Qatar H3 was founded in June 1976 by Mike Ogden and John Frith. Chris Fish, Tony Westcott and Dennis Quayle were hares on the inaugural run. Hashing quickly gained momentum and from the early days onwards there was a growing number of women runners. However, there were also sufficient hash veterans in the pack to create a ‘women and dogs tolerated’ atmosphere. One of the early legends of the hash was John ‘Wildman’ Harvey, the first to 700 runs and a noted hare who set the trail for their 1000th run. Today they are an adult, Monday afternoon hash, kids only being tolerated at the monthly barbeque run. Doha H3 was founded in 1996 to cater for families. |
Qatar ReunionA Qatar Reunion Hash was staged in London in1987 and became a regular event during the early 1990s.

Rich ‘Quick Draws’ Coats has been hashing since 1977, starting with China H3 in Taipei. In 1978 he attended the first official InterHash in Hong Kong. His main claim to fame however is being one of only three hashers to have been present at every Americas InterHash. He is now hashing with Mount Vernon and Over-the-Hump Hash in North Virginia and has a life time total of around 1700 runs with 130 different kennels.
